| Guide Services
With Sandstone Anglers you get many years of experience guiding
this amazing river. Our Head Guide, John Tavenner, has been guiding
here since 1988. You can rest assured our guides know the San Juan
and your trip will be a success.
You have the option of floating the river from a comfortable drift
boat or wading its fantastic waters. Float trips are the best for
your first time on the river or for more novice fishermen.
Our Fishing Trips
To ensure we meet your needs, Sandstone Anglers offers three types
of guided fishing trips:
- The Quality Water Float is a three-mile float through
the Quality Water stretch starting at the Texas Hole and ending
at the Quality Water Designation. This section has 10-15,000 fish
per mile that average 15-20 plus inches in length. This trip is
best suited for novice anglers and a must for your first time
on the San Juan River. It is a very relaxing way to fish and see
the river. Bring your waders on the float trip because our guides
prefer to wade some select spots along the way.
- The Quality Water Wade allows you to experience the San
Juan up close and personal with its residents. The San Juan is
a broad, shallow river and easily accessible to the wading angler.
The Quality Water Wade is an excellent option to reach the areas
inaccessible by boat - The Catch and Release areas above Texas
Hole as well as the best areas below. The wade trip offers more
opportunity for dry fly fishing and requires some physical endurance.
You'll learn much more about the river on a wade trip.
- The Lower San Juan Float begins in the Village of Navajo
Dam and floats through eight miles of private water. This is strictly
a full day float as the trip runs entirely through private land
in an area of the river that is very pristine and has no public
access (except by boat). On average the fish are smaller than
in the Quality Water, but you can have some of the best dry fly
fishing here. The Lower San Juan is great for anglers who enjoy
streamer fishing, a rare treat on the San Juan. This trip is recommended
for more advanced anglers looking for a challenge and change of
pace on the San Juan River.
